Shortly after the polls closed on June 24, New Yorkers learned that Zohran Mamdani had won the mayoral primary. And in drips and drabs of voting data released by the New York City Board of Elections since then, we've been able to see which neighborhoods favored Zohran Mamdani over Andrew Cuomo on the final round of ranked-choice voting.
But how exactly did ranked-choice voting play into the race? On Tuesday, a full four weeks out from the primary election, we got an answer to that question, when the BOE finally released the full ranked-choice voting transfers in the mayoral race, allowing us to determine whether people actually decided to leave Andrew Cuomo off their ballots entirely, or how the Brad Lander/Mamdani cross-endorsement impacted the race.
