Adams Administration Will Close NYC's Last Remaining Free COVID Testing Site

The closure of the rapid testing site in Crown Heights marks the end of an era in New York—not the end of COVID, but of the City's official effort to detect and contain it.

The last City-run COVID-19 testing site is set to close its doors this month.

Even after the broader network of public testing sites closed in 2023 when the federal public health emergency ended, the City maintained a handful of express testing sites run by the Health Department.

They offered highly accurate PCR tests with a quick turnaround time—usually same-day results. They tested for flu and RSV as well.

Originally, there were express sites in Morrisania in the Bronx, Fort Greene and Crown Heights in Brooklyn, Harlem, the upper West Side, and Chelsea in Manhattan, and Corona and Jamaica in Queens. One by one, they shut down.
