There are few New York City landlords as infamous as Steve Croman, a man who unlawfully hiked rents at rent-stabilized apartments, who served time at Rikers after pleading guilty to grand larceny, and who reportedly tried to double an East Village family’s rent while their two-year-old son battled cancer.
Dubbed one of the city’s worst landlords as early as 1998, Croman has had not one, but two tenant groups organize against him over the years. But the latest person to realize that Croman might be a bit of a shady character is his own father.
