I don't know when I became aware of The Wendy's Takis Fuego™ Meal, available for a limited time only, but at some point this summer, it became a fascination of mine. The Takis Fuego™ Meal is an unholy mixture of two distinct, although not wholly unrelated food groups—a chicken sandwich (Takis-fied), something called "Fuego Fries," and a tiny bag of Takis, all for $11.49 (with a medium soda to boot).
Overall, I'm a fan of syncretic foods, and I felt like this would be a worthy addition to the pantheon. The crunch and sting of Takis, the Mexican rolled tortilla chips, combined with the breaded deliciousness of a Wendy's chicken sandwich, which I have always felt was the most inoffensive and efficient of fast food options, the go-to when there's only fast food available and you're in desperate need of some calories? Perfection.
I felt the need to try it. And given that this is August, when you can fully let your worst impulses loose before the great long grind of winter, I found I had the reporting fire burning within me, the fuego for truth and experience that can never be extinguished. Why not live a little?
